Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30 PM

at Terrazas Branch

Although public perception of bats has improved over the last six decades Dr. Merlin D. Tuttle has advocated for them, bats remain among the world’s most endangered mammals despite their vital roles. Inspired by widespread fear and misunderstanding, this presentation introduces U.S. bats—highlighting Texas species—while debunking myths and sharing practical ways to coexist with our nocturnal neighbors.About the Presenter:Melissa Donnelly is the Science Specialist at Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation, where she provides assistance on conservation projects and research. Bats have always been a passion for her ever since first setting eyes on them at her cottage in Canada, where she grew up. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto where she received a BSc degree in Zoology, and college diploma from St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Canada, where she trained to become a Veterinary Technician. She’s been lucky enough to travel to various places throughout the United States, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia to help participate in bat surveys and conservation. She enjoys helping people help bats and bringing attention to the many individuals and groups doing fantastic work for bat conservation worldwide.About Merlin Tuttle's Bat Conservation:No group of mammals has been more misunderstood, needlessly feared, or intensely persecuted than bats. Relying on a powerful combination of science, field knowledge, and photography, MTBC is helping save millions of bats, protecting public health, economies and worldwide ecosystems by teaching people to live harmoniously with bats through Merlin’s one-of-a-kind experience.
